Goals and Objectives
 
1.    Students in grades K – 12 will be identified through a process without bias.
  • An identification committee consisting of teachers, administrators, and counselors will determine appropriate placement.
  • Develop a multi-faceted identification plan that will reflect current research and best practices.
2.    Students will be served by staff that have specialized preparation in high ability education.
  •  Encourage teachers to take university courses that will lead to licensure.
  •  Develop a comprehensive professional development program for staff.
  •  Engage teachers in ongoing, reflective practice with colleagues who serve high ability students.

3.    Students will be provided with curriculum and instruction that is appropriately differentiated to meet their needs.
  • Articulate and implement a well-defined and implemented curriculum scope and sequence for high ability learners in grades k – 12.
  • Assess high ability learners for proficiency in grade level standards and provide challenging educational opportunities when appropriate
  • Using best practices and research-based instructional strategies, teachers will differentiate, supplement, or modify curricula.

4.    Students will be provided opportunities designed to meet their  unique social and emotional needs.

  •  Provide counseling services by a counselor trained in characteristics and socio-emotional needs of high ability learners.    
  •  Develop well-defined and implemented affective curriculum that addresses personal/social awareness and adjustment, academic planning, vocational and career awareness for high ability learners
